Slow Cooked Bacon, And Cookies!

Image
The week went too fast. There's really not much I can write about. My brother Joe has progressed really fast! He now knows the Book of Mormon is true, he came to a baptism, he came to church, and he has a baptismal date set for June 8th. We get to refer him to another ward because we found out he is 1 street out of our area! This is still great though because he will really help the other ward!  В другой новости, we live with 2 other elders, one of whom is named Elder Blakely. He had an idea for the ages. It is my prediction his name will one day be heard among the likes of Socrates and DaVinci. He gloriously decided to spend all the money he had set apart for food on Cookies. He eats whatever random things are in the house for breakfast and lunch, but after 9 pm, when we all come back to the apartment, he makes 2 or 3 pans of cookies for us all to munch on. Way to commit, soldier! When people consistently read the Book of Mormon, they gain a testimony that it is the word of God. W...

THE 72 HOUR COCO ROOS CHALLENGE

Image
A couple weeks ago, a lady who works at the prison dropped off a ton of possibly expired Coco Roos from the prison. The giant box contained 60-70 smaller boxes of delicious (past date) goodness! For 2 weeks the box was left untouched, unseen, and unattended. We saw this to be a sham. rock. shame! Quickly, (faster than you can name the states in the continental US beginning with Texas then going backwards in alphabetical order) we came up with one of the greatest ideas known to missionary history.  THE 72 HOUR COCO ROOS CHALLENGE: the true test of manhood (you shouldn't have a colon in the title). We decided that for the next 72 hours, with the exception of member dinners, we would eat nothing but Coco Roos and milk! So it began. Faces were lightened. Bellies were fattened. A box, was emptied. I'm not going to go into too much detail, but my body felt interesting! In other news, I went to sweep this man's little yard at his apartment, and it was really great, until... there ...

"Forgot To Pay My Rent Last Month, I Owwwwe That!"

Image
This week has been a jubilous grind!  >We have put in a lot of work on organizational things this week for our ward huddles and things. >I found a dog that looks more like a sheep than Jimmer.  >All the work we put into chess is paying off! The grind paid off, Dad! >We rebuked 2 people this week! (Ezekiel 11:19 comes in clutch) Crazy Lesson of the week We were on an exchange and Elder Corrigan and I were teaching one of our friends. He had been struggling with the word of wisdom but wanted to be baptized. By the end of the lesson, he recommitted to his baptismal date and he handed us his cigarettes and coffee! It was hype. Then he said, "Uh, I think someone is stealing your bikes!" We turned to look and saw the other elders (my comp and the other AP) taking apart our bikes. We had locked the wheels together so they just started taking off the wheels. The car they were coming to get us in didn't have a bike rack. So, as we finished the lesson, they tried to sho...

"Я Am Señor Wooly"

Out here in Yuma, there are a lot of Spanish speakers, who also speak very little to no English. The apartments in which I abide have probably 50% people who speak English. Because of this, I happen to be trying my hand at Spanish. One time, when conversing in both his broken English and my broken Spanish, the man I was talking to apparently thought I needed a blessing. My companion was on the phone so he couldn't help me out. This little kid in the background started playing a Spanish holy song that sounded surprisingly similar to "Duel of the Fates." Then the man who was about 5 ft tall reached up and held his palm on my forehead. He then said some things that were hard to understand partly because some of it was in Spanish! I just stood there. I'll take all the blessings I can get!! Latest fire purchase: Almond Crunchy Honey Oats (great value) It is half the price of Honey Bunches of Oats and it has half the flavor. But still... it has the same amount of calories s...
