"Mother Knows Best (+Bars)"

Image
"Tangled" is becoming a reality out here. While packing for Ukraine, I was like, "Mom, I don't think I'm going to need sunscreen." She said that I'd better bring it. So it was packed in darkest, furthest chasms of my suitcase. Fast forward to Friday, we were biking in 97 degree heat in March. MOTHER KNOWS BEST!! I don't speak the language  Mother came in clutch Comp is smart as Cambridge Yet we eat bread for lunch Border Cali and Mexico The area is lit Lightning speed like Dinaco Ka-chow my biking gets The new area is awesome. My comp is Elder Madsen, and he is awesome. The people we are teaching are awesome. Everything is awesome. Everything is cool when you're part of a team! The area is one of the largest biking areas in the mission. There are lots of people here who only speak Spanish and it's a little sad because I can't communicate with them too well. We have a giant hill, (the only hill in Yuma) in our area. I have never gone so f...

"Diseased, But Not Deceased!"

Well, now I feel like I can truly relate to my older brothers on their missions. We got sick this week, and we were out of action until Thursday. On Friday, we taught our friend Jade and her 2 daughters came again and they committed to be baptized on Easter with Jade!!! It is transfer week! This means there are a couple of key facts that you need to know or you will be hopelessly lost in the never-ending flow of my future writings: -Bars are coming next week!!! -I'm leaving Casa Grande and going to Yuma -I will be in the hottest place in the mission, on bikes, likely into the summer! -I won't be able to come to Jade's baptism because Yuma is so far away from everything else -Sue Bird is still a bucket -There is a High of 99 degrees on this Saturday!  This week a man told me the Blazers were like 25 games under 500?? How? #howchaunceyhow The spirit is real. This week we found this guy and were talking to him. He told us about his life and struggles. I felt that I needed to s...

"6 Tubes, 4 Tires"

Image
LET'S GET HYPE!! I know the last couple emails have been #boring. Don't worry, I'm regaining my journalistic gumption, and can promise some good, quick, quality content. The back tire on my bike has had some trouble. It doesn't always pop but it does end as a Patriots' football. Yes, (this transfer) I am on tube #6 and tire #4. Part of the problem was that the mission office sent me a tire that already had a hole, and a tire of the wrong size. But I do take credit for popping at least 4 bike tubes. Yes... I've tried slime. I am on slime tube #3 and this one seems to be holding. It's OK though! I have gotten to ride Elder Lundberg's bike while I was working on mine! Some would say I went for the 2 in the bush, and it didn't pan out this time. I know what you're thinking... "All work and no play makes Elder Sheppert a very dull boy!" I got some play time this morning. We went hiking. In other news, we are finding new people to teach like ...

"Now I Know Why You Didn't Give Me Unlimited Fruit Snacks!"

First things first, RIP Phil. So bas ically, this week was really crazy, like last week, but I can't really talk about most of the crazy parts because of privacy matters. So... if I told you what happened this week, I would have to kill you.  With that precursor, I tell you a tale of life and death. Excess and wealth. Frivolity and decay.  It all starts on a Preparation day much too recent for my liking. We had just received our money for the next 2 weeks, and we missionaries felt like kings. I had, in weeks past ,noticed my housemates, engulfing whole packs of fruits snacks at a time. I decided to look for the source, and I saw a great value 60 pack box in each of their coveted cupboards. With the money I now had, (and my elite budgeting skills and self control acquired through months of having to buy milk while eating, all on the BYU meal plan), I purchased my own 60 pack box! You could almost hear someone whisper, "Wow, that's Phil's boy!" Contrary to popular b...

Fantastically Good!

It's a short one this week. Week was good though. Yesterday I met a rapper on the come up! His rapper name is Adrian T. Go. Give him a listen. WARNING-it may be explicit so use caution. I haven't heard his music. (If President OK's it, we may be dropping a Christian Single. I'll keep you posted.)  A good purchase suggestion would be some cheddar cheese crackers at Walmart--great value for $1.50. Go out and get a box.  We had a zone conference. Sister Goaslind (mission president's wife) invited us to read the Book of Mormon in the next 40 days. I'm going for it. Ya'll should too! Elder Sheppert Pray for Ukraine!
