"It's Not Tacoma, But It's AWESOME!"

And now I begin mine Christmas epistle unto mine brethren in the land of the 'Couve. Nearing the end of my labor with the people of the MTC, the Lord has called mine district another way. 


The Russians are continuing to be more aggressive on the border, and the church has decided to pull all the missionaries out of Dnipro and move them to Kiev. They have also said that they will not be sending any more missionaries to Ukraine at the moment. Due to this, my district has been reassigned, half to Layton, Utah, and my half to the Arizona Tempe mission. I am so hyped!! If I know anything, it is that God knows where we all need to be. 


One of my teachers called one of the friends he taught, and I had the opportunity to talk to him in Russian. It was going great, but then I forgot to say my question like a question. I focused on my words and didn't emphasize certain words. Instead of saying, "Does your mother love your brother more or you?" I said, "Your mother loves your brother more than you!" FATAL MISTAKE. He said something like, "Oh wow. That's tough." I realized my error and told him I meant to make it a question, and we all had a good laugh. The Russian is still going well. 


I want to point out that during the time of Christ's birth, angels appeared unto a couple shepherds. Not a large group of royalty. Not the priests. A couple normal everyday shepherds. God cares about everyone, and if we are humble and focus on Christ this Christmas, it may very well the best one yet. 


And now I, Elder Sheppert, end mine epistle, with gratitude and joy for the opportunity to live with the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Explanation of the title to this email:  David's brother, Chris, got reassigned partway through his mission from the Philippines to Tacoma, WA.  Now David has been reassigned as well.

The rumors are true. I still buy green bananas, even after all that the prophet has taught. In other news... this is the last week of this part of my mission. I'll be back in the Couve on Friday!  The last few weeks people have asked, "Are you nervous, excited, scared, or what?" I'm really just feeling good! It'll be good to keep grinding, living and sharing the word of Christ. That doesn't change! Paul Was The First Masterbuilder!!

1 Corinthians 3:10 "According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon." Be the special! We taught a super cool, extremely spiritual lesson Friday to one of our friends! She is a really nice lady with some adult kids and a husband. She really was seeking peace. We had felt like we should send a reminder text about the lesson to her an hour and a half before the lesson (and thought nothing of it). When we arrived she said she was at work until just a few minutes ago. She was planning to ask to reschedule because she had a lot to get done, but then she got the reminder text from us. She showed it to her boss and said she thought our text was a sign that she needed that lesson. She left work and met with us. We showed her how she can find peace on her own in the scriptures. "Surrounded By Russians"

This was a solid week. I have learned a lot about many different parts of the gospel. My district just got to the in-person MTC today (Wednesday), and it is so sweet!! The people here are so fun, and it is so amazing to work with them in person! I have a very cool story to share.  On my 6 am flight :) from Portland to Salt Lake City today, I was seated on an aisle seat. There was another elder a couple of rows away, so we started talking about where we were going. When I said Dnipro, the man across the aisle from me said with a heavy accent, "You're going to Ukraine!" He proceeded to tell me he was born in Ukraine and grew up in Russia. He was fluent in both Russian and Ukrainian. His family was in the two rows near him. It was so cute to hear his kids say things I could actually understand in Russian.
